Glyn Hughes RIP
Posted by Tony Ward, 24th May 2011
It is with great sadness that we pass on the news that Glyn Hughes, writer and artist, died this morning at home. Arc is privileged to be the publisher of his most recent - and last - book, A Year in the Bull Box, an extraordinary and moving sequence of poems which John Fuller describes as 'a spiritual adventure', the starting point of which was Glyn's being diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in 2009.
Tony Ward and Glyn met over 35 years ago and have always been friends, but A Year in the Bull Box is the first book of Glyn's to be published by Arc. Over the winter of 2010 /11, Tony and Glyn worked together on the manuscript. Tony says: I shall always remember these days spent with Glyn. Despite being in the throes of quite aggressive chemotherapy, Glyn was determined to work on the manuscript until we both felt that it was ready for publication. He was tireless and never lost his creative spark - I have the utmost admiration for him and shall always be deeply grateful to him for coming to Arc with this wonderful book.
