The sequences here also engage with a range of other diverse subject matters: insects, bees, neutrinos, Emily Bronte, ectoplasm, Humanist philosophy, planetary conjunctions, the origins of life, creativity, and more. ‘These patterns I word into fields’, as one poem puts it, are about the ways we perceive and encode. They are polymathic and absorbing, and a welcome insight into an important writer’s manifold practices.
