These anthologies appear as part of a series bringing contemporary international poetry to English language readers. It is not by accident that the cliché about poetry being 'lost in translation' came out of an English speaking culture, out of a tradition which has always felt a sense of unease where translation is concerned. But these two enterprising volumes are proof that poetry is 'found' in translation.

The poets represented in these two well-designed volumes are all contemporary and many of them have produced remarkably original work on a vast range of themes. In the Lithuanian volume, for example, Daiva Cepauskaite has written an irresistible poem called How to Get Into Paradise, but this is only one of the jewels in an anthology which should appeal to a wide reading public.
