The 26 poem sequence at the heart of M by Antony Rowland (Arc Publications, £9.99) was written in the shadow of the death of Keiran Crump Raiswell in a random knife attack in Manchester. Rowland, like Oberman, has dug up some Old English words, and writes movingly of 'sky blues dawn against Trafford reds' and poetics of the ringway / bushing over the violence'.
