EWA LIPSKA was born in 1945 in Kraków. She worked as an editor for the leading publishing house Wydawnictwo Literackie and was poetry editor of the literary magazine Pismo, which she co-founded. Translated into many languages, she won the Koscielski Fund Award (Geneva, 1973) and the Robert Graves PEN Club award (1979). In the 1990s she was head of the Polish Cultural Institute in Austria and she now lives in Kraków and Vienna. She also writes prose, drama and song lyrics.
