Clark Coolidge was born in 1939 in Providence, Rhode Island and attended Brown University, where he read Geology. From the early 1960s onwards, he has been at the centre of American poetry, and has received a number of literary awards. He is also well-known as a jazz drummer and a writer on jazz.
