Patrick McGuinness is a poet and novelist, and
Professor of French and Comparative Literature at the
University of Oxford. His books include the The Last
Hundred Days
, longlisted for the Man Booker Prize
and winner of Wales Book of the Year, the memoir
Other People’s Countries: A Journey into Memory,
which won the Duff Cooper Prize, and the novel,
Throw me to the Wolves, which won the Royal Society
of Literature’s Encore Award. He is the author of two
books of poems, The Canals of Mars and Jilted City.
He has translated volumes by Stéphane Mallarmé,
Hélène Dorion, and Jorge Manrique into English,
and is the editor of the Everyman Anthology of French
Poetry: from Medieval to Modern Times
