Bill Johnston is Associate Professor of Second Language Studies and Comparative Literature and Director of Polish Studies Center at Indiana University, Bloomington. His translations from the Polish include Witold Gombrowicz's Bacacay (Archipelago Books, 2004), Krzysztof Kamil Baczynski's White Magic and Other Poems (Green Integer, 2005), and Tadeusz Różewicz's New Poems (Archipelago Books, in press), along with over a dozen other books of poetry and prose. He has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts (for Juliusz Slowacki's Balladina) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (for Stefan Zeromski's The Coming Spring). From 2003-2006, he was a board member of the American Literary Translators Association.
