Kama Sywor Kamanda Democratic Republic of Congo

KAMA SYWOR KAMANDA was born in Luebo in 1952. Forced to leave the Congo in 1977 due to his political activities, he lived in various European countries before settling in Luxembourg. In 1985, Kama Kamanda founded the Association of African Writers. He draws his inspiration from ancient Egypt and the country of his ancestors and its rich seam of Bantu traditions. Kama Kamanda has received literary accolades such as the Prix Paul Verlaine from the Académie française and the Grand Prix littéraire de l'Afrique noire. His Oeuvres poétiques (complete works) came out in 2008. The first English language translations of his works - Tales; Volume One and a poetry collection called Wind Whispering Soul - were published in the USA by Davidson College, North Carolina.
