Kevin Maynard was awarded a First Class Honours BA degree at Exeter University and went on to do research into the History of Ideas at the Warburg Institute. Subsequently he became an English teacher and worked in both maintained and independent schools in London and Hertfordshire for over three decades. He came to Chinese literature quite serendipitously in his late forties, and studied Mandarin on a part-time basis at the School of Oriental and African Studies for five years. He has had poems and translations published in a range of magazines, and in 2017 one of the poems included in this anthology ('Building Walls') was 'Commended' in the Stephen Spender Prize Competition.

After spending over three decades in St Albans, Hertfordshire, he now lives on the South Coast in West Sussex.
