Reina Whaitiri New Zealand
Reina Whaitiri, Kai Tahu, is of Maori and Pakeha descent.
She is a teacher, researcher and editor of Maori, Pacific and
indigenous literature. She taught English literature at the
University of Auckland and the University of Hawai‘i, and
co-ordinated the former’s Tertiary Education Foundation
Programme. She has published articles on being Maori, and on
Maori women’s poetry, and has co-edited three anthologies,
Homeland: New Writing from America, the Pacific, and Asia
(University of Hawai‘i Press, 1997), Whetu Moana (AUP, 2003)
and Mauri Ola (AUP, 2010). She was one of the judges for the
2012 New Zealand Post Book Awards and for Huia Publishers’
Pikihuia short story annual competition. She is retired and
lives in Auckland.
