Richard Crockatt

Richard Crockatt was born in Scotland in 1947 and lives in North Norfolk with his wife Julia who is a photographer. He studied English Literature and German at the University of Edinburgh after which he spent two years in Germany working as an English teacher and translator.

On his return to the UK he moved into the field of history and entered an academic career, retiring from the University of East Anglia in 2011 as Professor of American History. Among his publications was The Fifty Years War: The United States and the Soviet Union in World Politics, 1941- 1991 (Routledge, 1995). In retirement he has returned to his German interests, both historical and literary, of which these Heine translations are fruit. On the historical front he has published Einstein and Twentieth Century Politics (Oxford University Press, 2016).
