The Elysian String Quartet

Trinity College of Music, YMF 2002

[Elysian String Quartet]

The Elysian Quartet was formed by students at Trinity College of Music in January 1999. During their time together, the Elysians have played at many interesting venues including the House of Commons, the British Music Information Centre and the British Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They have been actively involved in session recordings across London including work for the ‘Dreem Team’, television advertising, and on-screen performances for Sky TV and ITV. In 2000 they earned a place in the Bristol Millennium Chamber Music Competition, and were awarded Highly Commended in the Barbirolli Chamber Music Competition. They recently performed at Fairfield Halls, the Sevenoaks and Bromley Music Clubs, and have given recitals in the Spitalfields Festival 2000 and 2001.

Since their formation they have been coached by many distinguished musicians including Martin Lovett of the Amadeus Quartet, Nic Pendlebury of the Smith Quartet, and the Brodsky and Allegri Quartets The Elysian’s repertoire covers jazz and contemporary music as well as standard chamber music. Forthcoming engagements include a recital at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and a collaboration with saxophonist Andy Sheppard leading to a performance at the London Jazz Festival 2002. In November 2001, the Quartet toured Taiwan on behalf of Trinity College of Music to perform recitals and conduct workshops.
