A flautador is a travelling pipe - or recorder - player.

The Flautadors met in 1996 while studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Pamela Thorby and Robert Ehrlich. They attended masterclasses with the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet and have represented the Guildhall School on several occasions.

The repertoire of the group spans eight hundred years from mediaeval to modern works and includes pieces composed and arranged by members of the quartet. By playing a large number of instruments (from the garklein sopranino to the great bass recorder) and using a variety of interesting techniques, the group produces a wide range of brilliant tone and colour.

The Flautadors have been selected to appear in the finals of the 2001 International Early Music Network Young Artists' Competition, were finalists in the 1999 Mermaid Chamber Music Prize and have given recitals in St Martin-in-the-Fields, Chelmsford Cathedral, National Portrait Gallery and the City of London Festival. In addition, they have provided music for Elizabethan plays at the National Theatre in London, and performed in the Wigmore Hall Educational Concert Series. In June 2000, the group toured the north east of Scotland, giving concerts in Banff, Banchory, Inverurie and Aberdeen. In addition they gave masterclasses and workshops in regional primary and secondary schools.
