Royal Dutch Conservatoire, The Hague, YMF 2003
The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague has become one of Europe's largest music colleges and certainly among the most diverse in its range of courses - from sonology and Recording Engineering to dance; a world-renowned early music department to a very active jazz programme; a parallel junior school where students from the age of eight can take a full education combined with specialised arts subjects; courses in conjunction with our sister college, the Royal Academy of Art; and a composition department which includes three of tonight's composers. Chamber music is a core activity of the classical music department, and a number of projects are organised each year, often with eminent guest coaches. Among the most inspiring events are the composer projects in which (among others) Stockhausen, Messiaen, Cage, Kagel, Ligeti and Kurtág have been guests at the Royal Conservatoire. In December 2003 Steve Reich will be composer-in-residence and a large festival of all his major works and related repertoire from Machaut to Martland will be featured.
The Conservatoire is delighted to be invited to perform here tonight and hopes you will enjoy a programme that juxtaposes works by familiar twentieth-century composers with works that demonstrate the wealth of talent from our home country of The Netherlands.
We hopen dat u genoten heeft van het concert!
