Pei-fen Wang was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1977. She was awarded her Masters degree at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2001 and is now studying for the Diploma in Professional Studies.

During her undergraduate studies at the National Institute of the Arts in Taipei, Pei-fen joined Ju Percussion Group as a student member and performed with them at the Hong Kong Music Festival and the Universal Percussion Festival in Tokyo, Japan. In 1998, she participated in the L.H. Stevens International Marimba Competition and Festival at Eastman School in America. During 1999 Pei-fen joined the Taiwan International Youth Music Association Orchestra as principal timpanist with whom she performed in Reigensburg, Germany.

During her time in Britain, Pei-fen has won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe 2001 Percussion Scholarship, first prize in the Ludlow Philharmonic Concerto Prize Competition, the Birmingham Conservatoire Percussion Prize and the Rollason Award of the Doris Newton Music Club Prize.

In June 2001, she took part in a masterclass with Evelyn Glennie at the Wavendon Stables, Milton Keynes and performed Keiko Abe’s marimba concerto Prism Rhapsody with the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra at the Graduation Concert. In February this year she performed with the CBSO (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) in Symphony Hall.
