Julia Rumley

Julia Rumley was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1982. She began her violin studies at the age of three at the Vancouver Academy of Music. Presently, Julia is a post-graduate student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with the Head of Strings, David Takeno. Julia completed her Bachelor of Music Degree (Honours) Performance in 2003 at the University of Western Ontario and she was awarded the gold medal for her graduating class. She completed her Master's Degree at the Guildhall in 2004.

Julia has been the recipient of numerous awards including a generous grant from the Canada Council of the Arts (2003), the London Symphony Orchestra String Scheme (2003), the University of Western Ontario Concerto Competition (2002), the Canadian Music Competition where she won in both solo and chamber music divisions (2001) and was awarded full tuition scholarship from the Guildhall to complete her post-graduate studies. She was the youngest member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada on their European tour (1998) and concertmaster of the NYOC the following year.

Julia is a first violin extra with the London Symphony Orchestra and has recorded and toured with them extensively during the past two years.

Julia has attended many festivals including the Banff School of Fine Arts, Paxos Festival, Kent/Blossom Festival and the Orford Summer Programme.
